Building a Climate-Resilient and Equitable Sierra Leone
Empowering communities through education, environmental protection, and inclusive development.
BACKGROUND OF THE ORGANIZATION
EQUIEARTH FOUNDATION SIERRA LEONE (EE-FSiL) is a non-governmental, non-profit, and non-political organization, established to respond to pressing and interconnected development challenges facing Sierra Leone.
The country remains highly vulnerable to the impacts of climate change, including flooding, deforestation, coastal erosion, and environmental degradation, which disproportionately affect poor and marginalized communities. At the same time, limited access to quality education, particularly in rural and underserved areas, continues to constrain human capital development and long-term opportunities.
However, these challenges are compounded by poverty, social inequality, unemployment, and weak social protection systems: leaving women, children, persons with disabilities, and other vulnerable populations exposed to environmental, economic, and social shocks. Moreover, Climate impacts disrupt livelihoods and schooling, while gaps in education reduce community capacity to adapt, reinforcing cycles of vulnerability.
On that note, EE-FSiL was founded in recognition that climate change, education, and vulnerability are deeply interconnected and must be addressed through an integrated approach. The organization links environmental sustainability, education and knowledge empowerment, and social equity to promote inclusive, resilient, and sustainable development. Guided by its motto, Educate. Protect. Empower., And EE-FSiL engages communities through capacity building, advocacy, and partnerships to equip people with knowledge, safeguard their environment, and empower them to shape a sustainable and equitable future.
